Frequently asked questions

Hoops GM is a free basketball franchise manager that runs in your browser — the front office, not the court. Here is what people ask before they start.

Is it free?

Completely. No adverts inside the game, no virtual currency, nothing to buy and nothing locked behind a payment. There is an optional tip jar for people who want to support development; it unlocks nothing and never will.

Do I need an account?

No. Open the page, pick a team, and you are the general manager. An account only matters if you want to sync a career across devices or appear on the public leaderboard.

Does my career save?

Yes, automatically, in your browser. Closing the tab loses nothing. The save does live on that specific device, though — clearing your browser data will delete it. If a career matters to you, make a free account and push it to the cloud.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes, and it is built for it rather than squeezed onto it: a bottom navigation bar, full-size controls under the live court, and layouts designed for a thumb. You can also add it to your home screen and it will open like an app.

Can I play offline?

Yes. Hoops GM is an installable progressive web app, so once it has loaded it keeps working without a connection. Only cloud saves, the leaderboard and the community forum need the internet.

How long does a season take?

Whatever you want it to be. Watch every possession on the live court, or push the speed dial to MAX and finish a game in about six seconds. A full 82-game season plus the playoffs simulates in well under a minute.

Are the teams and players real?

No — every team, nickname and player in Hoops GM is fictional. The cities and divisions mirror a real league structure so the map feels familiar, but the people do not exist. If you want your own names, the league editor lets you rename teams and import a roster file from your own device.

How is it different from other basketball GM games?

Most of them are very good spreadsheets. Hoops GM is built on the Football Manager idea that the story matters as much as the numbers:
