Build a dynasty around a generational rookie

A once-in-a-generation talent just fell into your lap — a 19-year-old with a ceiling nobody else in the league can touch. He is the easy part. The hard part is everything you build around him before his prime arrives, and the clock is already running: you have five seasons to win a title.

A star is a beginning, not an answer

One elite player wins you games. He does not win you championships alone — the league is full of great players whose teams never get out of the first round. Your job is to turn a prodigy into a dynasty:

• Develop him right. A 19-year-old with a 99 ceiling still has to get there. Minutes, a strong development staff and the performance center all bend his growth curve. Waste his rookie years and the window opens late.
• Build the supporting cast. Draft and develop a second star, use your cap room while his rookie deal is cheap, and trade for the veterans who fit around him. His cheap early contract is the best asset you will ever have — spend the room it frees.
• Keep him happy. A cornerstone with low morale drags the whole locker room. Talk to him, build around him, and never let a saga fester — an unhappy franchise player is how five-season plans die in year two.

The long game

This is the patient challenge, and patience is its own discipline. Resist trading the future for a first-round exit before the core is ready. Let the young players take their lumps and grow. Time the leap — push your chips in the season his prime and your supporting cast finally line up. Do it right and you do not just win one title; you build the kind of team that contends for years.
